Yuyuko Saigyouji

Yuyuko is the ghost 'princess' of Hakugyokurou, the netherworld, of the "formerly living", but was once a living human. She has the power to invite mortal souls to death, and those soul who perish this way wind up in Hakugyokurou rather than Heaven or Hell. Humans fear her because of her tremendous power, but she is very cheerful and friendly. She is also described as an airhead. She has maroon eyes, short wavy pink hair. She wears a light blue and white kimono with dark blue trim and a blue mob cap, on the front of which is a hitaikakushi with a red ghost insignia. She appears to have existed for at least 1000 years.

Fun Facts

*Though it might seem dangerous for such a whimsical, seemingly impulsive personality to wield such tremendous power, Yuyuko appears to have a strong sense of responsibility regarding her power and never used it recklessly or out of spite, nor does she use it as a weapon.

*Long ago after her death from suicide, her body was used to place a seal on the Saigyou Ayakashi a dangerous Youkai cherry tree to stop it from killing innocent humans.

*Yuyuko became famous as a "hungry ghost" due to several "gluttonous" lines uttered during her scenario in "Touhou Imperishable Night".

*She is often depicted in fanworks as having an immense appetite or attempting to eat other characters, most notably Youmu's ghost-half.

*Impressed by her unwillingness to curse people, she was appointed by the great Yama to manage the soul of the dead.

*With her ability to manipulate death, she can kill someone with no resistance.

*Her personality is extraordinary easygoing that it is said she doesn't remember how long she's been in the Netherworld.

Youmu Konpaku

Name: Youmu Konpaku (Konpaku Youmu)

Species: Half-human half-phantom hybrid

Abilities: Swordfighting, Concentration, Superhuman speed

Personal Information

Youmu is one of the strange entities in Gensokyo, being half-human half-phantom at the same time. Her two halves are not intermixed like one would expect from a cross-breed, instead they exist in physically separate bodies. She has a straightforward and focused personality, which complements her swordfighting skills well. She serves her mistress Yuyuko as best as she can such as tending garden in Hakugyokurou and following her orders. Her human half has dark blue eyes and short silver hair. She wears a dark green and white dress with several ghost insignia along the edges and breast pocket. She also wears a black ribbon placed off-center on her hair. Her ghostly half is a formless white phantom as large as her human half. The two halves are always seen together. Her current age is less than 60 years old.

Fun Facts

*Her phantom half is often treated in fanworks as "food" (usually eaten by Yuyuko).

*She wields 2 swords "Roukanken" and "Hakurouken". Roukanken is the longer blade an capable to kill 10 ghost in on swipe. The shorter blade, Hakurouken is capable to cleave through a person's own confusion.

*Because of her spell card "200 Yojana in One Slash" she is said to be capable of striking at speeds most would consider physically impossible (200 Yojana can be 1,320-3000km in length). In order to cover that kind of distance in one slash, she would have to be able to be capable of moving at far beyond hypersonic speed. Her slowest slash has been calculated to move at the speed exceeding Mach 70.

*Ironically enough, considering her species, Youmu is afraid of ghost. It is a wonder why she doesn't cower away from Yuyuko whom herself is a ghost.

*Her appearance does not differ from human but she has a much longer lifespan than one.

*In the game "League Of Legends" there is an item called "Youmuu's Ghostblade" as tribute to Touhou.

*She patrols daily at the Netherworld on the morning and at night, for she is very dedicated to her work.

*Unlike normal Youkai, she won't attack all of the sudden unless provoked, and one would probably get her not to attack if they apologized to her.

Hong Meiling

Name: Hong Meiling (Meiling Hong)

Abilities: Chinese Martial Arts, Control of Chi

Hong Meiling lives in the Scarlet Devil Mansion and work as the gatekeeper. She is usually lazy at her job such as slacking and sleeping, though. She also practices martial arts. She has dark green eyes, long scarlet hair with 2 braids with black bow at the ends. She wears a green hat with a golden star in the middle, an olive green and white dress with black ribbon. Her current age is unknown.

Fun Facts

*She is widely known as "China" (pronounced Chuugoku).

*Despite the fact that she has some of the most impressive combos in the game, she does not have her own storyline.

*Fans usually depict her caring for Sakuya when she was a child. Additionally, they both have braided sideburns with ribbons.

*Many of her lines in Touhou Hisoutensoku indicate that Meiling has a boastful pride in China.

*Meiling's winning quote in Touhou Hisoutensoku does not indicate that Sakuya abuses her but rather builds a formal, friendly setting between the two.

*Meiling's told Sakuya that she always goes easy on her. If it were a formal match, she would and could very easily took the Chief Maid down.

*For obvious reason, Meiling is sometimes compared to Chun-Li from Street Fighter on notable traits.

*She is a well-rounded youkai, skilled in martial arts rather than focusing on a single power.

*She is unusually human like, and will chat with humans while on the job, as long as they don't try to get through her gate.

*She performs Tai Chi Chuan daily, and has a nap at noon.

*The best way to beat her is straightforwardly, in a formal match.

Flandre Scarlet

Name: Flandre Scarlet (Scarlet Flandre)

Species: Vampire

Abilities: Immense destructive power

Flandre Scarlet is the younger sister of Remilia Scarlet, the mistress of Scarlet Devil Mansion. Because of her incredible destructive power and unstable personality, her sister ordered her to not leave the mansion for narly 500 years. She had no substantive contact with any humans other than Sakuya. She has red eyes, blond hair which is tied into a single ponytail on her left side. She wears a red dress and vest, with a pink shirt underneath. She also wears a pink mob cap a red ribbon attached. She is approximately 495 years old.

Fun Facts

*Her wings appear to be made of iron and prism shard. It holds no resemblance to a vampire typical bat-like wings or even organic matter. It has been speculated that her wings are artificial and that she fashions them herself and attached them to her body.

*She may have lost her real wings or been born without them.

*Her wings strongly resembles Patchouli's spell card, Philosopher Stone, so maybe Patchouli made them for Flandre.

*She wields a metal wand which is the mythical "Laevateinn". It is rumored to hold an incredible destructive power.

*She apparently rarely attend any party held in the mansion.

*Everyone who enters the mansion hopes they don't run into her, including Marisa.

*Flandre can destroy anything she wants simply by moving the "eye" of the object, where the tension is the highest, into her hand, and pouring her power into it.

*When she clenched her fist whatever she has moved the "eye" of into her hand will be destroyed.

*She also has extreme physical strength.

*Unsurprisingly, all the toys she played with get broken.

Cirno

Name: Cirno

Species: Fairy

Abilities: Manipulation of cold

Personal Information

Cirno is an ice fairy. While she is considered as a weak boss in Touhou series, she is stronger than average fairies. She is assumed to lives around Misty Lake. She is childish as one can expect from her appearance. She is also depicted as being rather stupid. Judging by the way she talked, she really wasn't meaning to do anything but play games. However in Touhou Hisoutensoku, she shows more intelligence than in her previous games. She has aqua-colored eyes and hair and icicle shaped wings. She wears a blue ribbon and white blouse and blue jumper dress. She is implied to be over 60 years old, however she is still a child in Youkai terms.

Fun Facts

*She has been nicknamed "⑨" or "Nine-Ball"

*For obvious reason the date "09.09.2009" is known as "Cirno Day". For some reason,

numerous aspects of this day can be connected with 9. For example 09.09 is the 252nd day of

the year, so 2+5+2=9, you need 9 letters to type "September" and Japan timezone is +9.

*Reimu once warned her not to meddle around or else she would suffer from the frog goddess

(Suwako Moriya).

*Despite not making enough appearance in Touhou games, she is quite popular.

*She has a hobby to freeze amphibians, but one day she encounters a giant toad and was

swallowed whole, but she manages to escape when she froze the giant toad insides.

*If one is attacked by Cirno, the best defense is to talk calmly to her and ask her a riddle. No

matter how easy the riddle is, it will take her some time to figure it out. So it will be the best

time to flee.

Sakuya Izayoi

Sakuya Izayoi is the Chief Maid at the Scarlet Devil Mansion. Apparently she is the only human working and living there. She is known to place knives in midair and then resume time to let the knives fly towards their target. Her time manipulation also helped her in her work as a maid in such a huge mansion. She has dark blue eyes and silver hair with a long braid on each side of her face with a green bow at the ends. She wears a pink and dark blue French maid's outfit and a white maid headband on her head. She appears to be between 16 to 20 years old.

Fun Facts

*Apparently the name Sakuya is not her real name, but is given by Remilia. Her real name is

unknown.

*According to herself, if she ran out of knives, she would just freeze time and retrieve them back.

*She can use her power to accelerate time, such as making bamboo flowers bloom instantly, even

though this would normally take 60 years.

*Despite helping rebuilding the Hakurei Shrine, she casually ignores Reimu's donation box,

saying that she doesn't believe in God's anyway.

*Fans gave an idea that she wear pads to make her chest look bigger and goes great length to

keep this as a secret, even from Remilia.

*Although she can manipulate time it's difficult to change things that already occurred such as

undoing damage.

Remilia Scarlet

Name: Remilia Scarlet (Scarlet Remilia)

Remilia is the owner and head of the Scarlet Devil Mansion, the mistress of Sakuya and Meiling, the older sister of Flandre and friend of Patchouli. Like all vampires, she is photosensitive so she usually remains inside her mansion. She has a light appetite meaning that her victims almost never die from their wounds. She is noticeably short and have short light-blue hair with red eyes. She wears a pink mob cap and dress with red trimming. Her age is approximately 500 years old.

Fun Facts

*She claims to be the descendant of the world's notorious vampire Count Vlad Tepes Dracul.

*Like most vampires, she has the ability of turn into bat. However unlike most vampires, her

wings remain visible even when she is in her human form.

*She is the mistress and the one that gave Sakuya her name. Leading to a theory where Sakuya

was once a vampire hunter, and Remilia earned Sakuya servitude by besting her in combat.

*She wields a magical spear called Gungnir. It is also said that it will never miss it target.

*In fan works, whenever she is embarrassed or humiliated she will enter a state called

"Charisma Break" by the fanbase due to the contrast to her very charismatic personality.

*She is called "Scarlet Devil" because she unusually spilled her victim's blood on her white dress.

*Despite being over 500 years old, Remilia looks like a child and sometimes behaves like one.

*Her wingspan is wider when she is taller.

*She has large ego, short temper and well known for being selfish. However she can be polite.

*She is known to invite humans to parties held on the mansions grounds.

*She may also play in the human village out of pure whim and curiosity.

Patchouli Knowledge

Name: Patchouli Knowledge (Knowledge Patchouli)

Species: Magician(Witch)

Abilities: Magic, especially elemental magic

Personal Information

Patchouli Knowledge a very smart, asthmatic magician from the Scarlet Devil Mansion. She spends most of her time in the mansion's library reading and writing magic books. She is also a very powerful magician as proven when she used many elements in a single spell, but due to asthma problem and general poor health she's often unable to recite her spell. She rarely leaves the Scarlet Devil Mansion. She has purple eyes hair and most of her hair and body parts. She wears a pajama-like clothing and a night-cap as her daily wear. She is about 100 years old.

Fun Facts

*After being defeated by Marisa in one of the game, she utters "mukyu~". Since then the fans

had depicted her using this sound as a sign of surprise or pouting.

*In some fan comics, Patchouli is considered a hikikomori due to her habit of of spending most of her time in one room (the library) and rarely steps outside.

* She has waterproof books which Marisa find interest in reading while bathing.

*It is also said that she created and solves the problem in the Mansion

*Her books are magical and is also imbued with magic.

*There are far more books in her library than she could ever possibly hope to read.

*Due to her various health problem, she rarely battles with other.

Marisa Kirisame

Name: Marisa Kirisame (Kirisame Marisa)

Abilities: High-level Magic

Personal Information

Marisa Kirisame is a human magician and is one of the most important characters in the Touhou series. Her personality is sometimes described as disagreeable, but sometimes straightforward. Nonetheless she is a very self-confident person that likes to stick her nose into other people problem. She is also known as a hard worker, who's trying to catch up with Reimu with her secret training and magic development. This is a huge contrast to other humans in the series, most of them have some kind of natural born talent (Reimu) or ability (Sakuya). She have golden eyes and blonde hair. She also wears a black witches hat, a white apron and a black skirt. She is also about the same age as Reimu.

Fun Facts

*Marisa lives in The Kirisame household in the Forest of Magic.

*She is the only daughter of the proprietor of a secondhand shop in the village.

*She runs the "Kirisame Magic Shop" from her house, but rarely have any customer.

*Marisa specialty is light and heat magic. She also said "If it is not flashy, it is not magic"

*Her magic is fueled by a phantasmal mushroom which she boils into soup and dries out into

blocks of magical "fuel".

*She works as a youkai exterminator and held firework shows. Her side occupation is burglary

particularly books.

Reimu Hakurei

Name: Reimu Hakurei (Hakurei Reimu)

Species: Human

Abilities: Sealing/purification powers, high intuition, ability to call on the power of Gods, flight

Personal Information

Reimu Hakurei is the main character of The Touhou series. She is the only shrine maiden of the Hakurei Shrine. Because of the way she dress in the games, her exposed armpits has become the target of jokes and memes. [Personally I think her armpit looks great] She wore a large ribbon on her hair. She also had a long hair. Her clothes were red and white in color and strongly resembles a traditional shrine maiden outfit. She appears to be in her mid-teens.

Fun Facts

*Reimu lives in the Hakurei Shrine and is tasked with the maintenance of the Great Boundary.

*She also has great luck and talent so she mostly doesn't train.

*No youkai dare to oppose her because if she is defeated, the Great Boundary might collapse,

thus making her unrivaled.

*She also invented the Spell Card rules which are intended to allow youkai and human to settle

their conflicts without lethal forces.

*Her donation box at Hakurei Shrine is always empty for unknown reasons.
